Passerby’s and potential customers on 202 4 miles south of West Chester will notice that Stoltzfus RV & Marine has filled up most of their roof space with solar.
Expected to produce up to 90% of their power demand, the 230.75 kW system is comprised of 923 high-efficiency solar panels. Earl Stoltzfus, owner, said “I wanted a clean power energy solution, but also a clean conscience knowing that we were taking steps forward to be a responsible and sustainable business.”
Earl started researching the available tax benefits and incentives for solar about two years ago, but at the time it seemed too expensive. It wasn’t until Josh Mitten, Director of Business Development at Advanced Solar Industries, came and visited that solar began to be a tangible and affordable option for Earl. The up-front cost was offset through energy savings, depreciation, a federal grant, and a state rebate.
Recently, the solar industry has experienced a significant decrease specifically in the cost of solar panels. With prices reduced by 50% in the last 18 months alone, now is an excellent time to go solar. Mitten anticipates that the pricing is at an all time low, and Advanced Solar Industries is seeing the numbers work for many businesses. Electricity generated by the system will be measured in real-time via web-based monitoring, making it available for customers to view in the showroom. Customers already have commented on how impressive the system looks from Route 202.
